We are planning to buy STK L700 with IBM Fiber Channel LTO generation 2 tape drive, I would like to hear your opinion about the LTO 2 tape drive. Thanks Jackie
I think it's a good combination. I would say that IBM LTO2 is the second best tapedrive you can get, if what you need is high capacity (I would say that 9940B's are the best drives) /johnny
I don't know anything about the AIT-3 drives, but I don't think they can be used in a L700 library. And I think that people that use 9940B wouldn't trade them for any other drive. They are rock solid
AIT-3 are 8mm tapes and not compatible with anything but AIT libraries. AIT-4 or SAIT are suppose to be 1/2" (not sure if they're available yet) I heard(the drives) they are a little larger than DLT
AIT4 and SAIT are two completely different formats. AIT has a continuing roadmap to AIT6+, meaning AIT4 and future versions will also be 8mm. SAIT is 1/2" and the next version will be SAIT2. Just wan
Sounds like a good combo to me, we have roughly 110 of the IBM drives spread across 1 L5500 and 2 L700's. No problems so far <knocking on wood>... Steve Curry Storage Ops Yahoo! Inc. http://www.yahoo
The money are in tapes, expected life of the drive, less errors (especialy restore erors) and availability. Pro: Tapes for 9940 cost less then for LTO2 and you use the same tape in 9940A and 9940B Ex
Thanks a lot for everybody replied. We are connecting a SUN Ultra 60 and a HP L1000 to the IBM FC LTO2 tape drive, does anybody have a recommendation about the HBA? I currently have Qlogic QLA2300 fo
I think the LTO2 drives were the right choice. I've been using the emulex LP9002L cards with lots of success. Easy to setup, reliable and great compatibility. -scurry Thanks a lot for everybody repli
