Can you run multiple TSM server instances on the same physical hardware?

We are looking to upgrade our TSM server to a P550 running AIX v5.3 TL4.



Currently we are running a database of around 100 GB and wanted to add another couple of databases (which requires other TSM instances, right?) and were planning on running multiple instances of TSM on the same physical hardware.



Is anyone doing this our there? If so, can you lend any advice or explain any gotchas that I may want to avoid?



I know we need to set up a library manager. Does the library manager have to be the same level as other TSM servers or can it be a higher level?

Running multiple instances of TSM server on the same hardware is supported and it is even discussed in the admin guide.



Export the correct settings in your shell, make a new directory with a dsmserv.opt and format some new DB/LOG volumes.



Library sharing - you must run same or higher level of TSM server (within reason) on the library master as the library clients. I try to keep mine within the same major release.

We are doing this, and not using a library manager. We resource the hardware through control M, and tape ranges are allocated to each tsm, so far works a treat.



Worth having a master console to distrubute your settings etc rather than making changes locally.
