how to change data retention policy

Hi Team,

I am the new for tsm and we are using TSM 6.3 on windows 2k8 failover cluster mode

Please suggest how to set retantion period for tape when a tape full,actually we need when a tape full in a stg pool after it will go to retaintion and after the retaintion it will go for auto scratch and remount to older stg-pool

Please also confirm me what types of retention period is currently running, means what is data retention period is currently running

Hi Jimmy,

You have to know that TSM does not allow you for defining a "tape retention policy". TSM only uses a "data retention policy" and allows for a consolidation of the remaining valid data on fewer tapes. If you're backing up using the progressive incremental methodology, you're unable to know when data will expire, so don't know when data consolidation (or space reclaimation) will occur.

I've seen that you're using specific domains for monthly and yearly full backups. Why full ? You may also use incremental with the required policy. If backups are full, and every is configured accordingly (See I don't say the right way here !), you may get your tapes back after 12 monthes or 2 years respectively.

can you tell me, is iscadmin installation required for tsm 6.3 server if i want admin console(GUI WEB MODE) because if we want (admin console web page) on TSM 5.5 server then we need to install iscadmin first after it i installed TSAM admin console

Hi Ravi,

With version 6, Admin Center and ISC (new name is TIP) are packaged in the same install bundle. This bundle is available here :

Hi Ravi,

The command you'll have to use in orger to register a TSM license is REGISTER LICENSE. Depending on the license you own, you should register a Basic or an Extended Edition license.
I'm pretty sure it hab been already done during implementation of your server. See QUERY LICENSE.

Hello sir,

I've Windows servers to be backup using baclient (v6.3), and tdp database (v6.3). TSM server (v6.3) is sitting on windows server 2008 faolover cluster mode Initially after implemented and configured it work accordingly for a 2 month.



Suddenly an all my Daily Windows file system backup failed with the above mentioned error message.

ans5092s server out of data storage

i have assign 8 tape for daily backup and now this time showing me two tapes are full, and remains 6 is showing me filling state

and i have seen when i taking manualy backup on diffrnt windows server every time ups086l4 tape volume is mounuting on tape drive
