Should I be archiving?
Hello,
I have an old server I'm retiring, I've copied the data over to the new server but I would like to do a offsite archive of the old system before wiping it clean. I've created an archive storage pool and moved the TSM client over and began the archive process. After it's finished can I just check out the archive tapes, run a full database backup, check out that DB tape, them take everything home for safe keeping? I'm just wondering if this is the best process to do this.
As long as I have the full database on tape and the archive tapes I should be good if I have to retrieve years down the road for some reason.
Thanks!

How long do you plan to keep the data? The problem with Archives is that if the TSM server goes away (is replaced by something else) then the headache of restoring the DB and then recovering the data makes it a real pain. Did you happen to send a copy of the TSM server software version offsite with the DB backup?

I plan to keep it forever, and I did send a copy of the TSM version I used.
Can archives be retrieved from other nodes?
