How to move Storage Slots from One logical Library to another in TS3310
Friends,
We have a TS3310 partitioned into 2 Logical libraries at present.
Logical Library 1 : 10 slots
Logical Library 2 : 300 Slots
logical library 2 is currently being used by TSM and has few tapes containing TSM data.
We need to move around 96 storage slots from library 2 to library 1.
How can we do this without touching existing tsm data ???

Hi,
yes, it is perfectly safe. Delete the original libraries in the TSM (volumes are bound to storage pools and device classes - the library in the devclass definition can be changed/updated as needed) - paths to drives first, then drives, path to libraries and finally the libraries.
Then redefine logical libraries in the TS3310 (put the tapes in the corresponding slots), rescan bus in the TSM server and you can define the new libraries. If you use same names, you do not need to modify device classes at all.
Last thing is to check-in the tapes to the libraries from the TSM point of view. Check in the scratch tapes first (you got a lot of warning that tape cannot be assigned as a scratch - that is normal) and private tapes last.

You don't need to delete any library config in TSM. First make sure you have 96 empty slots in Library2. Halt TSM. Remove 96 slots from Library2. Add 96 slots to Library one. Start TSM. It will work out the library slot changes. Audit the library for good measure.
If you don't ensure you have 96 slots empty first, the TS3310 library will tell you to delete the logical libraries first and recreate them with the correct numbers. Then you manually have to move tapes to correct slots.
Done it a number of times recently for a migration from LTO3 to LTO5.

Hi
If you use TSM 6.3 you can use command AUDIT LIBRary with parametr REFRESHstate=yes,
So I think for change library configuration you:
- checkout tapes
- reconfigure libraryes
- assign tapes to correct library
- run AUDIT LIBRary with parameter REFRESHstate=yes for both libraries.
- checkin tapes.
