Default I/O errors on tape drives

So I moved over my 3 tape drives from the one library I had from my old tsm 5.5 server to my brand new tsm 6.3 server.

I defined all the libraries, paths, and drives.

I started to do the label process and it is labeling the tapes so far from what I can see by doing a q proc, but I see ton of I/O errors in the actlog

    Date/Time Message
    -------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------
    06/13/2012 15:09:13 ANR8302E I/O error on drive DRIVE1 (/dev/tsmscsi/mt0) with
    volume (OP=READ, Error Number=0, CC=205, rc = 23, KEY=
    FF, ASC=FF, ASCQ= FF, SENSE=**NONE**, Description=SCSI
adapter failure). Refer to the &STGM; documentation on

On all 3 drives. I cannot imagine all 3 drives are bad?

Here is what I have in my path for example:

    Source Name: BACKUP02
    Source Type: SERVER
    Destination Name: DRIVE1
    Destination Type: DRIVE
    Library: NEO4000
    Node Name:
    Device: /dev/tsmscsi/mt0
    External Manager:
    ZOS Media Server:
    Comm. Method:
    LUN:
    Initiator: 0
    Directory:
    On-Line: Yes

I am trying to think of what to look for next?

CC=205 is a SCSI/FC adapter failure. Check your connectivity and drivers. Have a look into the drive log.

    Thanks!

I think it has something to do with the qlogic card, which is used to communicate with the fiber tape drives. I see tons of errors on the HBA itself.

Just in case anyone runs into this, I thought it was hardware but tried all different pieces and swap out, I had to open a call with IBM. It turned out since we were using drive encryption we ran into a bug and they sent me the following fix:

    ftp://ftp.emea.ibm.com/fromibm/pmr/6..._x86_64.tar.gz

That worked! So I am in business now.
