Post SQL Server FileGroup Backup Using IBM Tivoli Storage Manager!

    Hello Guys
My company is using IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for sql server backup/restore operations. I just need to know is there a way to use sql server filegroup backup option using this tool.
Let me quickly share the overall requirement with you; we want to take backup of specific sql server tables using IBM Tivoli Storage Manager. My first query; is this possible using this tool. If yes then how? or is there any other workaround available?
    Thanks.

Yes, you can use this tool to backup SQL files or filegroups. In the GUI you can see this option or you can use the command line interface. Please read the user's guide for the exact instructions.
Tha database needs to be in full recovery modell to perform this kind of backup operation.

Default SQL Server file group backups

I have been working with a TSM consultant in trying to backup my SQL Server Standby Database files.

Because you cannot backup a SQL Standby Database, I am trying to at the least, backup the *.mdf and *.ldf files.

We have tried everything under sun however, for some reason, Tivoli refuses to see the *.mdf and *.ldf files.

I thought it might be a permissions issue with the directory so I created an empty file in the directory and TSM backed the file up with no issues but did not backup the *.mdf and *.ldf files.

It automatically excludes these files for some reason.

The TSM schedule is as follows:
    -STOP SQL SERVER
    -wait for 10 minutes
    -backup all files in directory
    -START SQL SERVER

However, it does not backup the *.mdf and *.ldf files.

Can anyone provide any insight on this???

Typically the MDFs and LDFs are open so they are added to the include/exlcude as they'll never get a clean backup. With TDP its not necessary as its a hot backup. If you are shutting down the database it may make sense to ask your TSM guy to review the inclexcl's to see whats being excluded from databases.
