Netware Performance Solution

I thought I would pass along a solution to a problem I had recently. We upgraded to TSM 61. and moved to a new backup server. I noticed backup performance from my Windows VMs were 10x faster than from my Netware VMs. I found all sorts of tweaks like NWTUNE.NCF and GWTUNE.NCF but the performance still was unimproved. The interesting thing is the backup would start out VERY fast and within 5 minutes slow to a crawl.

Solution: After sniffing both fast and slow segments of the backup I found the slowness was being caused by RETRANSMISSIONS. After more digging I found the Netware SET below. The difference was immediate and amazing. I'm now getting around 1GB per minute. I did also keep the other tweaks from NWTUNE. Hope this helps someone.

SET TCP MINIMUM RETRANSMISSION TIMEOUT=4 (the default is 2)

Was the problem happening while backing up the larger files that make up the VM?
