Sysback BMR of AIX Micro-partition on same network segment
Would anyone have any experience, or ideas on performing a bare metal restore of a micro-partion onto the same network segment that the source partition is already running on without causing an IP conflict?
In this instance, the idea is to BMR a machine, apply updates, test, etc while the original machine continues to function. Once validated, the upgrade can be applied to production.
As it stands, we are unable to confirm that restoring this image won't, as part of the restore process, automatically boot the new server with the same network settings on the same network segment.
Is there anything that can be done to force a new IP address, remove its IP address altogether, or ensure that the network interface is disabled before it boots and causes a conflict?

In this case, I would look to CSM/NIM. It works very well with either a mksysb image (similar to sysback) or a BOS install. This is how we perform all installs of our servers, regardless of network segment or LPAR size. In about 30 minutes, I can have a system cloned, from taking the mksysb image to a booted, updated client.
