Default Domino TDP & full-text indexes

    Hi,

How do you handle domino full-text indexes? The TDP backs up the databases and the normal client backs up what ever is on the filesystem, i.e. the *.ft directories.

But has/would anyone actually restore the FT indexes? Wouldn't it be easier just to rebuild the index in the event of having to restore? So in that case exclude the *.ft directories from the normal backup ( exclude.dir /.../*.ft ). Wouldn't that save a good chunk of storage on TSM?

    Thanks in advance

i've excluded the .ft from backup, and with no ill effect. so long as the .nsf files get backed up frequently, all is good.

as far as i've been able to find out, the *.ft directories, and their contents, are only used by domino to speed up processing so that domino can parse through the text-indexes instead of having to go through the .nsf databases. also, they seem to get updated by domino when the corresponding .nsf file changes, basically any change to the .nsf will propagate to the .ft directory and not vice versa.
