What is the command you're using and what other processes are going on at the same time?

Guess which has occurred.

How many mount points do you have available? and how many mount points do you have defined to use for a backup?
command syntax looks correct.......

Maybe your environment is different but normally I would expect to see a path defined to the *library*, as well as to the drive. This is so TSM knows how to talk to the library (which device file).
What is the output from "q libv" do you have any scratch tapes listed?
Also update your 8mm device class and put a estimated capacity on it and show the output from q stg f=d again.

Do you need a path to a manual library? if so, what is the "device" used?

You do need a path to the drive, not library, you would still define a library though. Device would be whatever your device is i.e. LTO3 would be devt=lto.

I don't have a library. I have a single external 8mm. I can label tape with no problem. How can I mount a tape after a label?
