Default Tape from automated lib to manual lib

    Hi,

I have a problem concerning a test which I currently carry out.
I wish to restore tapes of backup of my site of production towards my site of rescue.

In my site of production, I have an automated library and in my site of rescue I have a manual library.
When I make the command line:
    Checkin libvol "library_name" search=yes status=Private checkl=barcode "
That gives me the error message: ANR8403E = Operation not allowed for Manual Libraries.

    What can I do ?

    Christophe

Well Mr Magic first things first.

    Checkin libv
You would use this command to add a sequential access storage volume or a cleaning tape to the server inventory for an automated library. Not a manual library.

secondly have you defined this drive as a manual drive and library? After configuring it as a manual drive and library the server determines that a volume must be mounted on a drive in a manual library, the server issues mount request messages that prompt an operator to mount the volume. The server sends these messages to the server console and to administrative clients that were started by using the special mount mode or console mode parameter.:

Hope this helps. Peace out Christophe

    Mr djchopps0013

First of all, I thank you for your reply.

Secondly, yes the library and the drive are defined in mode: manual.

In an automated library, you can checkin libvols.

In a manual library, you have to define the volume to a stgpool which uses a device class which has the manual library. The server then prompts the operator to mount tapes.

How, BTW, is the server to know what's on the tape? Do you restore a db backup to the rescue site first?
