Just a follow up for the record.
We ended up migrating the database to a newer array and all of the problems are gone. This is the smoothest TSM has run in years.
Maybe I'll take a step back and do some number gathering. Beyond the dozens of other performance no-no's we're doing, I feel the 100% used disk is the biggest factor. By simply stopping...
Hi guys, first off this is TSM 5.5 on AIX.
Our main TSM guy is swamped getting other work done prior to a planned medical leave, so I'm going to try and pick up some of the TSM slack. Let me...
I'm running into an issue while setting up snapdiff backups on our NetApp filers. Here's the scenario:
Two networks are in play here a production network, where CIFS traffic is routed, and a...

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the advantage to using "dsmc ba" to "dsmc incr"?

I would only like to back up what has changed. A selective backup would not do that, correct?

Checking back in on this issue, can anyone offer anything before I start hacking and slashing on my own?

We have a dedicated server set to backup a bunch of CIFS shares on one of our filers.
A Windows scheduled task is set to run once a night which kicks off a batch script. The batch script does...

Wow, I'm a TSM admin (2 man team), VMware admin (3 man team), SQL admin (2 man team), storage admin (4 man team), Citrix admin (2 man team), linux admin (4 man), and a bunch of Windows crap for a...
Thanks. Do you now set a size limit to your journal DBs?
Thanks... how exactly did you delete it? Restart the service? Re-run the wizard?
Did you ever find an answer GregE?
Thanks BBB, that sounds spot on. I've never heard of DIRMC before. I'll give it a try and post my results.
One question though... will changing the DIRMC option rebind/move the misplaced directory...
We run migration on that storage pool once per day. The only server that backs up directly to tape is our Exchange server, which is 700GB per day.
We only have 4 tape drives, so writing directly...
The snapshot files are snapshots of SQL and Exchange LUNs. The files range from a few GB to over 100 GB.

Thanks for the reply BBB -
First off, we are not using a TDP client. I have a script to mount snapshots (SQL databases) from the filer, and then I backup those snapshots. These are large files and...
We've been having some issue lately with tape drive usage. A lot of our processes are getting hung up due to drive availability.
If I check the tapes that are mounted, I often find an...

Not much of a fix, but I tried the latest and greatest x64 client and all seems to be well now.
02-27-2009, 03:52 PM
The pre is calling a vb script which uses some snap manager commands to mount SQL snapshots for backup.
the post command unmounts them.
Doing this on the majority of our database servers, no...

I've tried all sorts of combination... but as soon as teh daily is added, BAM. Crash.

No, it is a physical Server 2003 x64 cluster node.
Another possibly relevant detail is the daily schedule is using pre and post commands, while the weekly and monthly are not.

I'm having a problem assigning a schedule to a fussy client node. I've used this schedule on dozens of nodes, and this is the only one having a problem. There are three schedules, a daily (backup),...
On the last day of the month you could have an admin schedule do:
update sch daily_schdule startdate=today+1
and have a second schedule only run on the last day.
I'm not quite sure if this is...
not a whole lot to look at on their website.

Sorry to bump this, but my question appends on the OP's question.
I'm backing up a couple of very large servers that are not properly tracked by OR. So what I would like is an post cmd to email me...
Ah.. my bad, I had a google search of rman in another tab. I guess posted my reply before I figured out what rman was.
I have some servers set up to do daily, weekly, monthly backups, all going to different storage pools. All are configured with different management classes.
The daily schedule is a backup, and is...
When deploying TSM, we tried to create a standard opt file with links to other files that contain server specific options. That way we could en masse deploy and replace all opt...
This is a rather simple question, but a good answer will hopefully save me many headaches and unnecessary work.
Our current environment contains hundreds of Windows servers all polling TSM at an...

I'm taking a lot of heat for flooding all our Windows event logs with excessive TSM entries.
CAD polls the server every hour, so these are what we see in the event viewer every hour. It makes...
When I remove the <clusternode yes> option from cluster.opt, I can see the C: drive, and only the C: drive.
Since TSM backups will be our second line of deefnse (behind NetApp...
What do you mean by "mounted to share drive"? Technically, it can be mounted wherever, the problem is presenting that "share" to TSM. I'm having problems getting the cluster TSM to see anything other...
I'm having trouble adding C:\Nets as a cluster resource. What type or resource would this be? The only thing that makes sense is File Share, but when I choose that I am given...
Here's my cluster.opt file:
I understand I can back up the C: drive of each node individually, but what I am really aiming for is to have the cluster node access the C: drive of the node it is attached to.
Interesting situation... I just setup a MCSE cluster to test TSM backups and everything seemed to be going great. I could back up both nodes, as well as the cluster node. Multiple domains,...

It looks like we managed to sort it out. Because the folders were actually windows volume mount points, we needed to include each path as a domain.

After some more research, I've found that these NetApp snaps show up in Windows as Windows Mount Points.
I guess the question that can now be asked is, how can I tell TSM to backup these...

Here is the scenario:
I am trying to backup some NetApp snapshots.
I have a custom schedule set with the following options:
