I've had the exact same problems - also happend when I tried to do a backup stgp to tape and when I tried to label tapes in a new LTO4 library.

I experienced the exact same sensecodes...

Both libraries (the old LTO2 and the new LTO4 one) contain only a single drive each - normal operations didn't seem to require more than one drive.
