Thank you. I was hoping there was something better than option #1 that I might have missed, but on a second thought it's not that bad.
After setting the excludes there will be no need to worry...

Well I thought I got this figured out but I haven't. I've been trying all day but I cannot duplicate the behavior I described in my previous post.
So to put it in other terms and to make myself...

Thank you. I knew this document. I can't see how it applies to my reasoning though.

Exactly. And this leads to another problem that has already been discussed in this forum: inactive files cannot be rebound to a different management class, unless the original file still exists on...

Looks like I was wrong (thankfully). The Windows BA Client manual says:
"When you exclude a file that was previously included, existing backup versions become inactive during the next incremental...

I am scratching my head with what should be an easy task to accomplish, yet I've been unable to find an acceptable solution.
I have about 200 Windows server that have been backed up...

Thanks eric06! I had the same problem, and your solution solved it.

I'm bumping this topic hoping that somebody could give me some hints.
I am the TSM admin at a company that has been using it for 8 years. Recently my company joined with another one where they...

Spot on! Had exactly the same problem and your suggestion worked perfectly.
Thank you for letting us know how to solve it!

due to the need of backing up a Windows server through a slow link I am investingating the possibility of performing Adaptive Subfile backups.
An IBM document dated 2005 says that...

I just tried installing the latest BA client (188.8.131.52 64-bit) on a freshly installed, plain vanilla Windows 2008-64 bit (Eng).
Same error (as my previous post) popping out when I configure the...

Tried it today.
Now the error message pops out at the end of the "Configure TSM Client option file" wizard that starts automatically, when clicking "Apply", instead of shortly after its beginning....

Similar problem here.
I've been using TSM 5.5.x for years but haven't gone to 6.x yet. Now I'm conducting a test install on a newly-installed Windows 2008 server (32bit). The Windows firewall is...

Thanks. The version concept is easily understood for file backups with the BA client, but it appears more obscure (to me at least) when it comes to Exchange or SQL backups, where "files" and...

I am trying to understand how the mgmt classes work with TDP for Exchange. I am only making legacy backups. I run a weekly full (on Sundays) and daily incrementals (all other days).
You can move data from a primary disk pool. You just have to move data to another primary stg pool (or the same).
If you have space left on the disk:
1. create new_volumes in the same primary...

I'm sorry for a probably dumb question, but somebody said there are no dumb questions... right? :-)

I created a specific mgmt class for the TOC and specified the TOCMG parameter when I issued the generate backupset...
Yes, they still exist on the machine. In fact they haven't been backed up yet. I just finished transferring (they were scattered among some NAS devices).
If I go for the backupset method do I have...
I could have explained a little better. The only data I'd like to archive were imported into a folder of a machine; the mail server has never been installed here. So actually the only data...
I've been administering a TSM installation for some years now, but all I've been using are standard backups and restores.

I've always figured the BMR should be one of the main issues, so I'm surprised no one of the big guys is contributing here.
BMR without Cristie can be done and I did it successfully several times....

So it's a BA client feature? It must be a behaviour specific to some SQL versions because it does not happen with older versions. Is it documented anywhere?
01-09-2009, 11:56 AM
That's getting weirder. I tried and completely removed the TDP for SQL to see if it was its installation to hide the files from the BA client.
The files cannot be seen even without the TDP client....
If you could allocate enough disk to the disk pool to store all backups forever (e.g. you could use NAS space) then you could achieve what the customer wants moving the copy storage pool volumes...

Win2003 with TSM 5.5.1 client installed. The machine is also a MSSQL 2005 server and has TDP for MSSQL 5.5.1 installed.
Some of the MSSQL 2005 database files, both mdf and logs, are not visible...

Ok, so there are both a workaround and a fix for this issue.
Now my problem is that there will probably be many corrupted jpeg's (and possibly other file types) scattered in the TSM storage pools,...

A further search spotted the problem. This can happen when compression=yes and compressalways=no are in effect, the file is small and grows during compression.
The bug has been addressed with APAR...

I just noticed a weird behavior with TSM 184.108.40.206 Windows BA client.

IBM has opened an APAR on this issue:
The workarounds suggested in this thread (downgrading to TSMOR 220.127.116.11 or binary editing tsmrept.exe) seem to work. Waiting for the official IBM fix now....

I just wanted to check whether this problem came from a problem upgrade.
So I installed TSM Server 5.5.1 from scratch (not upgrading) on a virtual machine. The sequence, as usual:
1. J2re 1.4.2

I just upgraded a Windows TSM 5.5.0 server to 5.5.1.
The daily report now gives an error on the very first statement and stops processing. The error is as follows:
