Delete the tape from the COPY pool. However, when you do this, the data on the tape that has been dropped by the deletion of the COPY tape will be copied over to another tape in the COPY pool when...
It should show. The command should be 'q libvol' which queries the library itself. If it does not show after 'q libvol', then all is good.
What you are doing is one good way to be able to restore data at a file level.
Another way is to do daily snapshots and just backup the snapshots to TSM. However, you can only recover data at the...
You have a similar posting - I answered this.
Don't you need the data? What kind of tape is it? Primary or Copy?
Yes - that is correct. Or you can also say:
checkout libvolume forest exb004 checkl=no remove=yes
to avoid the reading of the physical label of the tape.
'Filling' is akin to 'Mountable'. Check these out when you want it.

Here is what I believe is a better route:
1. Backup disk pool --> copy pool
2. Backup primary tape pool --> copy pool (just in case the data spilled over to copy pool)
3. Migrate disk pool -->...

Unlike in pre-TSM6.x, you cannot just delete extended volumes.
You have to do:
1. backup the TSM DB
2. stop TSM
3. delete the TSM db via the 'dsmserv removedb TSMDB1' command
4. delete the...
Just check the tapes out. Copy tapes, by default, goes to mountable state once written to.
If you use DRM, see 'help drm' and read through to find out how to check out the tapes using the 'move...
label with overwrite=yes
A structured design is well posed for fast backup and recovery.
I have spent years of looking into which is best, and I found out that having a 'silo' approach lends to faster backup and restore....

If the process is set to 1, then TSM will use 2 tape drives which is the minimum requirement for tape reclamation.
You are referring to a logical library or VTL, correct. Is this right?
If you are trying to relabel Virtual tapes that have been marked as a GEN 5 3592 tape, TSM sees incompatibility thus the...

As I said - do this via a Library manager. In other words, you need a library manager.
define sched <domain_name> <schedule_name> starttime=00:00 duration=239 duru=minutes period=4 perunits=hours

I hope when you say install 3 instances on an AIX LPAR, you have dedicated resources and direct storage allocation for the LPAR. TSM is resource intensive and shared resources will not work well.
You don't - this log space is internally managed by DB2 for TSM.
Depends on the data and how TSM applies compression.
If the NAS image has a lot of white spaces, then a higher compression is possible.
You may want to increase that memory to at least 48 GB. Cap the TSM usage to 80 percent of that via the dsmserv.opt file and restart TSM.
On an earlier job, with TSM 5.5.6, I have a P 520 with 4...
How many nodes are defined on this server? How many cores are on the P7?
In any regard, my TSM 6.3.3 servers runs on Redhat 5.8 on an Intel platform with 64 GB of RAM and 16 cores of Intel CPU...

Then it means you are not backing up anything since 14 days ago.
Run a manual backup and see what happens.
08-06-2014, 03:50 PM
If you do a 'q backup', it should display only the active ones.
If there were no changes on a file, TSM WILL NOT back it up. So, if the file is 14 days old, it means the file hasn't been...

OK - I think I know what is the source of your problem. It looks like you have just one tape drive.
This becomes an issue if more than one node or server wants to backup to TSM since you don't...

It looks like you backup directly to tape. Next, can you post: 'q stgpool syslog f=d' and 'q vol stgpool=syslog'. Also post: 'q drive'
You cannot specify partial backup between storage pools. You have to stop the backup if you want to do partial.
I know this is not what you want to hear, but you need to have a bigger library.

On the TSM server (command line), enter the following commands and post the output:
1. q stgpool
2. q proc
TSM schedules itself to run DB reorganization as needed. If no reorganization has run for the last few days, then it does not need it.
In other words, no worries.
To view set start time and...

Don't make them co-exist.
Separate these devices as much as possible for speed reasons.

Selective is a FULL backup. Any backup done using the selective option can be retained for a long period of time with the right policy/management class settings.
Nope - the server must have the sendmail daemon running. Without it, you cannot send mail.
Try sending mail from it:
ls -la | mailx -s "Test" email@example.com
dsmadmc -id=xxx -password=xxx "run my_script" \> /tmp/file`date +%d.%m.%Y`.txt| mailx -s "Your Subject here" firstname.lastname@example.org.
For this to work, your TSM server (or any server for...

This may not be the answer you want to hear. I question the logic of putting SQL servers, and most especially clustered solutions, on any Virtual environment as this is problematic and has a tendency...

Have you tried rebooting the clients?
Is is not recommended to have Storage Agent running on the same server that TSM server is running on.
You are better off bringing up a separate server, loading Storage Agent on it for LAN Free...
I don't believe anyone in this forum really knows how TSM writes data to tape. I haven't seen a document explaining how TSM does it.
Select statement for online and offsite tape pools differ:
select volume_name,status,pct_utilized from volumes where stgpool_name='<ONLINE_TAPE_POOL_NAME>' and...

I have seen TSM do this - just sit there waiting, and no entry in any log.
Full with low PCT UTIL value means that these tapes once used to have a high PCT UTIL value (possibly 100%) and marked by TSM as FULL since no more data can be moved into it.
Over time, as you run...

This simply means that the target node has access to the tape drives via the Fiber network which is the same way that the source node is zoned into the tape drives via the Fiber network.
07-17-2014, 03:43 PM
If you need to restore quickly, you need the Storage Agent + zoning the target to the backup device in order to do LAN-Free.
If you cannot zone it, and there is NO path over the LAN, then it will...
Is expiration running?

I would question this setup:
.... backup proxy is the Windows TSM server (a separate proxy is recommended)
Are you doing LAN free for the image backup between VM Ware and SAN? If so, are you...
SELECT CAST(FLOAT(SUM(logical_mb)) / 1024 / 1024 AS DEC(8,2)) FROM occupancy
gives you the totals of all nodes BY SERVER instance. Run this command on all instances.
