Hi everyone, Im new to ADSM.ORG and tape backups! Im starting my own shop and running on a shoe-string budget, so I purchased a used TS3310 Library...

Hi everyone, Im new to ADSM.ORG and tape backups! Im starting my own shop and running on a shoe-string budget, so I purchased a used TS3310 Library with two LTO3 tape drives (FC). When the library boots up, it tells me the tape drives are Incompatible, and I get a T108 Error. I have verified that the tape drives are compatible using the Interoperability tool at IBM. One of the Drives shows a really funny serial number (1), and reports the media as LTO-8! Im sure its wrong, the other shows as unknown. Im using Library firmware: 635G.GS005. &nbsp;&nbsp;<br><br>Unfortunately, the tape drives have their LED status as: Green, one second pulses, which indicates the processors are running normally, and a steady ON Blue, meaning the drive is varied offline and able to be removed. This means the FC port is down. Is their any way to "force" feed the firmware to the library drives. Using the web UI is not working, and I do not have another functional drive (both are in this weird state) to make the FMR tape. Even if I did I'm not sure the auto-loader would feed it to the drives. My assumption is that the drives are an old firmware level or failed a firmware update and that is causing this scenario.<br><br>Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone. Looking forward to joining the community!

I have a problem with our TSM system. It's a new system we have only had for a couple of months. The problem we have is that we have 4 drives in our library but if all of them have tapes mounted we cannot checkin/checkout as the library/TSM cannot mount a tape to check it's correct. I want the library just to use the barcode reader when checking tapes in/out, is this possible to configure?

Thanks in adance

TSM server 6.3.0.0 running on Linux Redhat 5.5

This client has an HP VTL and a Quantum Scalar i80 tape library, so both non-IBM drives.

This started with the client telling me he loses his paths everytime he reboots.
I read pretty much everything having "persistent tape" and "Linux" on Google. All that did is give me a headache... I am pretty sure we can accomplish this with SANDISCOVERY ON.

The problem is I have a hard time identifying which device in /dev/tsmscsi/mtinfo belongs to which tape library. Add to that all devices are seen multiples time because of dual path...

I have read a little bit about the sg_util package but it's not install (yet).
Does anyone have some hints on getting the relashionship betwen the device serial number and the device path on Redhat (like tsmdlst does on Windows) ?

Thanks

Hi,
yesterday I installed latest Windows updates on my TSM server and vm backup proxy which uses LANfree data movement. When I reboot the machine it doesn't come back online. When I disconnect the fibre connection to the tape device the startup process continues. After log on I reconnect the tapes devices and all devices are shown but all are unusable this means uninstall, update driver etc. - nothing works as expected. In my opinion Microsoft has changed something in the plug and play device handling. When I uninstall the tape bus enumerator I can update the device driver but the device is still unusable (maybe the tape bus enumerator is needed).
Latest installed updates are:

- KB2813170 - KB2813347 - KB2808735 - KB2817183 - KB890830

I tried a lot of strange things - but no success. Has anybody experienced the same?
Thank you.

I have a Solaris 10 system, and need to send files directly to a tape drive, not using TSM.

We use IBMtape, not the native Solaris drivers in our environment. I have a tape loaded into a tape drive. Anyone done this successfully?

Here's my command and result.

# tar -cvf /dev/rmt/110st ./file1
tar: /dev/rmt/110st: I/O error

The reason I can't use TSM is that our tape set has been shipped to our DR site for testing, we want to send some additional specific files. We're not going to create a new TSM Db backup and do a second TSM server recovery at the DR test site just for these files, so we thought this would be a simple method of handling it.

I have 2 tsm servers that use the Library (both AIX and TSM 6x) As I haven't gotten my hands around using the shared library server yet I have a question. I need to do and Audit library. I am assuming I would do that from the shared library server..(is this correct?) If this is right do I need to stop all processes from my other tsm servers that are mounting tapes? Could someone just give me a quick procedure/list of things I need to do to get this audit to complete?

Thanks!

We run TSM Server V6.2 on HP-UX servers.
We use 2 TSM library managers that control two libraries type TS3500.
In case of a library crash after business hours (no 7x24 support), administrative
processes or lanfree backups to the crashed library fail. At the moment, we switch the processes/backups to the
next pools on the other library manually. Is there any possibility to set up an automatic failover
of processes or backups to the second library ? Does anybody have experience with scripting something like this, no matter under which operating system ? Thanks a lot !
