One of my Windows clients had a complete hard drive failure and we cannot get it to boot. We want to restore the data to an alternate client. I was trying to restore some files to the TSM server directly (a Linux server), but it is not working. I tried running this:

dsmc query filespace -fromnode=client_a

but I get this error, even though there are file spaces for this client:
"No file spaces for node ''client_a' were found on the server"

I then tried this:

dsmc -virtualnodename=client_a

But I get this error:
"ANS1357S Session rejected: Downlevel client code version"

Both the client and server are at the same version:

Client Version 6, Release 1, Level 0.0

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

Hi All,

We have a case where the HDD on one of our TSM servers has crashed and as a result the HDD is being replaced and being reimaged with the same OS - Windows 2003.

TSM Server - 5.3
Operating System - Windows 2003
Tape Library - Overland storage Neo 2000 (SCSI)
Type of Tapes - LTO-2
Number of Drives - 2

We only have the latest Database copy that was backed up to a tape.

We haven't started the TSM server installation yet, the tape library is the same connected to server using SCSI. The drives are showing up under "Other devices" in "Device Manager" and not under "Tape Drives" as the TSM drivers need to be installed. We only know on which tape the latest DB is, we don't have other important information such as device configuration file, volume history file.

My question is:

Is it possible to rebuild TSM server with just the latest DB tape?

If yes, please help us with the procedure.

I have never done this before, so I am nervous.

Your help on this would be highly appreciated.

Regards,
